A French court sentenced Algerian international Ilyes Chetti to a four-month prison sentence on Thursday for sexual assault on a young woman in a case dating back to December 2022.

The defender of the Angers SCO club was sentenced on April 6, 2023 to a four-month suspended prison sentence following a sexual assault perpetrated in December 2022.

During his comparison on prior recognition of debt, the Algerian footballer acknowledged the facts and accepted the sanction required by the prosecution.

The incident reportedly occurred during an evening at a nightclub in Angers, during which Ilyes Chetti admitted to having “touched the buttocks” of an unknown young woman.

This affair also led to the inappropriate remarks of former SCO coach Abdel Bouhazama during his pre-match speech against Montpellier (0-5). The LFP had suspended Bouhazama for a month because of his remarks, in which he said that touching women was not serious because “we have all done this before”.

According to local media, the hearing began around 9:55 a.m. The victim was not presented or represented, but had reported the facts.

Ilyes Chetti, 25, admitted the facts before the judge and accepted the proposed sentence.

His lawyer did not wish to make any specific comments, even after he left the room. The judge approved the proposed sentence after a few minutes of reflection, but pointed out that the proposed sanction was “a bit excessive but acceptable”.
