The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today that it has been called by Cameroonian football stakeholders to investigate allegations of “improper conduct” by Samuel Eto’o.

“CAF has received written statements from several Cameroonian football stakeholders to look into and investigate certain alleged improper conduct by Mr. Samuel Eto’o who is President of the Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT),” informs the governing body of football on the continent, this Wednesday, August 09, 2023.

CAF indicated that it is looking into these requests based on and in accordance with its Statutes and Regulations. “Whilst the allegations are prima facie serious, Mr. Samuel Eto’o is presumed to be innocent until an appropriate judicial body concludes otherwise.”

The institution also said it will not make any further announcements while investigations are ongoing and will only make public statements when the proceedings are complete.

Barely a month ago, a group representing Cameroon’s amateur clubs demanded the resignation of the legendary former player from his role as president of the country’s football federation. This group underlined the presence of “serious irregularities” within the Football Association.
