The coach of Cameroon, Rigobert Song, unveiled his list of selected players for the upcoming match against Burundi in September, a qualifier for the AFCON 2023. André Onana and Clinton N’jie are invited to return to the team.
Endless media coverage, coupled with the personal involvement of the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya and his government following Onana’s resignation announcement, has probably yielded results.
André Onana is summoned to the den of the Indomitable Lions. The Cameroonian goalkeeper is featured on the list of players called up by Rigobert Song for the sixth round of qualifiers for AFCON 2023, the final phase of which will take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024, in Côte d’Ivoire.
In the list of 24 players announced by Cameroon’s coach on Tuesday, there are also several players making a comeback. This includes Clinton N’jie, Samuel Oum Gouet, Gaël Ondoua, and Harold Moukoudi, who are returning to the national team.
Meanwhile there is a first call-up for Régis François Mughe, the 19-year-old winger from Olympique de Marseille. However, Nicolas N’koulou, Martin Hongla, Jean Charles Castelleto, and Ignatius Ganago are not included in the squad.
Currently second in Group C with 4 points, Cameroon is neck and neck with Burundi, who also have 4 points. A draw would secure the Indomitable Lions’ ticket to travel to Ivory Coast next year.
