President Ali Bongo has been placed under house arrest following the announcement of his presumed re-election for a third term on the Saturday, August 26th presidential election.

The military group stated in a press release read on Gabon 24 this morning that he is surrounded by his family and doctors.

The officers also announced the arrest of several personalities, including Noureddin Bongo Valentin, the son of President Ali Bongo Ondimba. These individuals are accused of “massive embezzlement of public funds, international financial malpractice by organized groups, forgery and use of forged documents, counterfeiting the President’s signature, active corruption, and drug trafficking.”

“The competent authorities will conduct an investigation, and the individuals involved will be held accountable for their actions,” stated the military officers.
