Senegal hosted Algeria on Tuesday evening in Dakar in a friendly match, as part of the international break in September. And on arrival, the Lions of Téranga lost with a score of 1-0.
Difficult opponent of Algerians for the last five years, the Lions of Téranga won’t tame the Fennecs on Tuesday evening in Dakar either. Opposed to Algeria in a friendly match counting for the FIFA days of September 2023, the reigning African champions lost with a score of 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by former Toulouse player Farès Chaïbi after the hour mark (64th).
And yet the hosts could easily have won this game. In his lair, at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Diamniadio, coach Aliou Cissé brought out the heavy artillery with the tenure of the offensive trident Iliman Ndiaye, Nicolas Jackson, and Sadio Mané.
Stirring, Sadio Mané forced Anthony Mandrea to concede the first corner of the game. Five minutes later, the Al Nassr striker did it again after a pivot from Iliman Ndiaye, without further success (7′). The double opportunity from Abdou Diallo and Nicolas Jackson at the half-hour mark also followed the same trajectory.
At the same time, Algeria, far from being wait-and-see, distinguished itself with some offensive actions, without success either. This was particularly the fault of the strikers who were poor at finishing.
Senegal vs Algeria: A bad day for the African champions
