Ghana sees a significant decline in the February 2024 FIFA Rankings

In the latest FIFA rankings unveiled on Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Ghana Black Stars experienced a significant decline following a disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, which concluded triumphantly with the host country’s victory last Sunday.

The Black Stars dropped from 61st to 67th place since the previous ranking in December 2023, now totaling 1363 points. Ghana, who once again dismissed their coach Chris Hughton, now sits at the 13th position in Africa.

During the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana failed to progress from the group stage. They did not secure any victories in Group B, which included Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique. They returned home early after accumulating only two points, while Egypt advanced with three points.

Although the Lions of the Atlas of Morocco fell short of expectations at the 2023 AFCON, they retained their top spot in Africa. Eliminated in the round of 16 by South Africa, they nonetheless maintain their leadership position and rise to 12th place globally. The Lions of Teranga from Senegal, currently ranked 17th, maintain their second position despite their early exit from the tournament.

Additionally, the Super Eagles of Nigeria made an impressive leap forward in these FIFA rankings, moving from 42nd to 28th place. The reigning African champions gained ten places to reach the 39th position globally. Tunisia completes the Top 5 African teams by occupying the 40th place.

On the global stage, Argentina maintains its top position, followed respectively by France, England, Belgium, and Brazil.
