Emmanuel Ibrahim Rotich, the husband of Olympic runner, Agnes Tirop, found dead at her home in Iten, was arrested Thursday evening in the coastal town of Mombasa, as he tried to flee Kenya.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has started questioning and announced that he will be charged with murder.

The man who was traveling with him and had his cell phone was also arrested.

The main suspect in the athlete’s assassination had been wanted across the country since the discovery of his wife’s body on Wednesday.

Agnes Tirop was one of Kenya’s sporting hopes and already had a promising track record at just 25 years old.

Just a month ago, she broke the women’s 10 kilometer road race world record.

The athlete was found dead at her home in Iten on Wednesday. Police said the victim was stabbed in the abdomen.

Her husband was quickly identified as the main suspect. Still according to the police, he would have, before fleeing, telephoned his family in tears to confess to having done something terrible.

The couple were separated at the time of the murder, but their families convinced them to try to reconcile.
