The former Captain of the Sparrowhawks of Togo, Emmanuel Adebayor spoke again about the mismanagement of the national team. While complaining of not being listened to, the former Real Madrid player sent new messages to the sports minister and officials of the Togolese football federation.

It was through a live video on Facebook this Wednesday, February 15, 2022, that Emmanuel Adebayor expressed his sadness at not being able to support the Togo national team properly.

Adebayor said he would like to have the same impact other legends have on their national teams. He notably cited El Hadj Diouf and Jay Jay Okocha who are very popular within their federations.

While recalling the great role he had to play for many years within the national team, Marshal SEA believes that if Togo does not qualify for AFCON 2023, it is in large part because of the rulers.

“There is no one to find the right words to motivate players like me, which is what I have been able to do throughout my career. I was the youngest captain in the history of this country and I led my big brothers,” said the former Arsenal striker.

“I told them what to do: when to prepare for the match, when to eat before the match, what time to leave for the stadium… no one left and you want to qualify? I go into the locker room, they tell me not to go. I want to support my team, I’m told not to. While you have not invested in Togolese football more than me”.

The Togolese international also addressed media professionals, asking them not to discourage young Togolese players with unnecessary criticism.

At 37, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor remains the absolute superstar of the Togo national team. The 2008 African Ballon d’Or, who has not yet announced the end of his football career, remains a reference on the continental level.
