Since Monday, February 28, 2022, the emblematic former defender and captain has held the position of Cameroon’s Head coach, replacing Portuguese technician Antonio Conçeiçao. The legend talked about his mission, the previous time he was given the chance to lead a Cameroonian team.

Rigobert Song knows what awaits him at the head of the Indomitable Lions. His role, in the current context, is to instill in his younger brothers those little details that they miss.

“I am always in the spirit of a competitor. I am no longer in the field, but I have the same state of mind. Before, I shared my life with my teammates. Today, I pass on my experience to the players”, he indicated to a French-speaking international media, a few years ago, on the eve of the final phase of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2018 which took place on Moroccan soil.

And to continue at the time: “I am proud to be back and to continue my activities thanks to the support of my federation and the Cameroonian people. I have to give back what they gave me,” he told RFI before starting CHAN.

For Samuel Eto’o Fils, the new boss of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), “The upcoming deadlines for our national team require new directions and a new lease of life”. And this is the mission that he entrusts to his former teammate in the national pennant team.

Rigobert Song, 45, trained at the same coaching school as Zinedine Zidane, Claude Makelele at Clairefontaine, worked for several major European clubs, including Liverpool, Cologne, Galatasaray, among others.

He must take up a first big challenge: to obtain qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup against the Fennecs of Algeria in a double confrontation.
