After Togo’s disappointing draw (2-2) against Eswatini on Friday during their first match of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) qualifiers, the technician Paulo Duarte spoke at a press conference.
Although he’s disappointed by the final result, the Sparrowhawks coach is still satisfied with the game produced by his players.
“It is a very bizarre result. We had a fantastic match with normal quality of play for a team that is rebuilding. Ease of creating opportunities. I think we put on a show for the public. We can win 5, 6-0 not because the opponent is weak… We created a lot of opportunities thanks to our quality of play”, the Portuguese technician said.

“Whether it’s the right lane to the left, whether it’s a placed attack or in counter attack. We weren’t effective. The reality is that we lost points. It was the victory that everyone was waiting for to end this famine in Kégué. Unfortunately, in the 94th minute, we are still deprived of the three points. We have to manage this disappointment,” Duarte added.
With one point, the Togolese are ranked third in Group B. In the other game, Burkina Faso beat Cape Verde (2-0), their next opponent for the national team.
