Former Ghana Black Stars midfielder Abu Imoro died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at around 3 p.m. in Accra. Two years ago, the sad living condition of the former Ghanaian international was revealed in a documentary by the journalist Yaw Ofosu.

In the interview with TV3’s Yaw Ofosu, the retired footballer admitted to being introduced to hard drugs and wished he could quit.

“I entered into drugs, but drug is not good for me. So I want to stop ,… I am left with nobody”, Imoru said.

“I will advise the youth especially young footballers not to go near drugs. They are now coming up and if you want to play to the highest level, don’t move into drugs. Keep yourself out.”

The bad news about the player was announced by Anthony Baffoe, President of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana.


Abu Imoro was a regular fixture in the Black Stars in the 1980s and was also an integral member of Great Olympics.
