Initially scheduled between June and July next year in Côte d’Ivoire, the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023) will instead be played in January 2024, the CAF (African Football Confederation) announced on Sunday in Rabat.

CAF announced this Sunday July 03, 2022, its decision to postpone the 2023 edition of the Continental Competition to January 2024 due to weather conditions in Côte d’Ivoire.

The uncertainties regarding the climatic conditions in the west African country at this time of year, illustrated by the recent floods which have bereaved the nation, prompted CAF to postpone the event to January 2024.
