Despite losing to Uruguay in their third game of the 2022 World Cup, Ghana Black Stars have at least managed to prevent their opponents from advancing to the Round of 16.

As in 2010, the Ghana team was kicked out of the World Cup by Uruguay on December 2 in Al Wakrah, the Uruguayans also being eliminated from this 2022 World Cup. The Ghanaians, beaten 2-0 and who still have missed a penalty, can blame themselves.

And history repeated itself (almost). In 2010, the Ghana team was eliminated by that of Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, after missing a penalty, thus plunging all the football fans of a country in distress.

Twelve years later, the same scenario: the Black Stars were deprived of a round of 16 by a serene and confident Uruguayan selection of its strength, this December 2 in Al Wakrah. And the turning point of the match came from an error by the only Ghanaian survivor of the South African World Cup: André Ayew.

However it must be said that the Ghanaians also managed to punish Uruguay.

Having four points like South Korea, Suarez’s country needs just one additional goal to become second in Group H. But Otto Addo’s men did not give in.

“Uruguay and Ghana eliminated
I’m happy for one thing at least: Suarez’s tears,” said a colleague from Ghana.

South Korea and Portugal thus join the countries qualified for the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.
