In the third day of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers, Nigeria fell Friday in Abuja against Guinea-Bissau (0-1). Liberia for its part snatched a surprising and precious draw in South Africa (2-2).

Leading Group A before kick-off, Nigeria fell out of their chair. The Super Eagles lost to Guinea Bissau for their third outing in these qualifying phases.

Against Djurtus in a game played in Abuja, the Nigerians lost 1-0. The Trojan Mame Baldé scored the only goal of the match (29th). Enough for Guinea Bissau to take the lead in this pool with 7 points, ahead of the Super Eagles (6).

As a reminder, Guinea Bissau is ranked 118th according to the FIFA world rankings in December 2022 while Nigeria occupies the 35th position in the world.

The show was also on the agenda in South Africa, between the Bafana Bafana and Liberia. The two teams left in a draw (2-2) after an electric match. Led 2-0 before the half hour mark on a double from Lyla Foster (11th, 22nd), the Lone Stars snatched the equalizer in the second half.

Tonia Tisdell launched the revolt on the hour mark, before Mohammed Sangare snatched the point of draw for the Bissau-Guineans in stoppage time.

Housed in a three-team Pool K, Zimbabwe being disqualified, Liberia comes back up to South Africa with one point, behind Morocco (6 points), already qualified.
