Chad has ordered the German ambassador to leave the country because of his “discourteous attitude” and “disrespect for diplomatic usage”, the country’s communication ministry said in a brief statement released last night.

Jan-Christian Gordon Kricke, German ambassador to Chad since 2021, was granted 48 hours on Friday to leave the country of Mahamat Idriss Deby.

However, the statement of a few lines did not specify the reasons for which the diplomat was ordered to leave.

For now, the German Foreign Ministry says the reasons for the ambassador’s expulsion were unclear, adding that he was in contact with the Chadian government.

As a reminder, the Central African country is led by a military man. Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno is serving as transitional president of Chad following the death of his father in the battle against rebels in 2021. The latter led the country from December 1990 to April 2021.
