In a press release published on Friday April 28, 2023, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced the awarding of the organization of the 2027 Men’s World Cup to Qatar.
After hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar is set to host another international competition. The country on the Arabian Peninsula has been designated to host the 2027 Basketball World Cup.
“All games at the prestigious tournament to be played in the city of Doha”, indicates the FIBA , which assures that “all venues to be used for FIBA’s flagship men’s event are already constructed”.
“One of the best-connected destinations in the world, Qatar’s capital city, Doha, has direct flights from most of the potential participating countries, while the recently upgraded subway and public transportation network connects all venues, providing a top-class service for all visitors”
Qatar therefore wins the organization of a new international competition, in the sports world, after the 2022 Football World Cup of course, but also the 2019 World Athletics Championships or even handball in 2015.
As a reminder, the next Basketball World Cup will take place in the Philippines from August 25 to September 10, with part of the group stage hosted by Japan and Indonesia. Meanwhile, Germany has won the bid to host the Women’s World Cup in 2026, which will take place entirely in two venues in Berlin.
