The Turkish club Fenerbahçe, which is about to see off Attila Szalai, for Union Berlin, anticipated and welcomed Ghanaian central defender Alexander Djiku on Monday July 10, 2023.

The former player of Strasbourg has signed until June 2026 with an optional year.

“ Fenerbahçe have signed French-born Ghanaian national defender Alexander Djiku for 3+1 years. Our manager Selahattin Baki and our sporting director Mario Branco also took part in the signing ceremony held at the Ülker Stadium Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu sports complex”, read a statement from the club.

“Very proud to be joining Fenerbahçe, an institution in Turkish and European footballI can’t wait to start the adventure with my new team-mates so that I can enjoy a great season and give my all for this great club and its exceptional fans !”, Djiku said.

Born on August 9, 1994 in Montpellier, France, Alexander Kwabena Baidoo Djiku started playing for the Ghana national team in October 2020. He was acquired by Ligue 1 club Strasbourg in July 2019, signing a contract for four years.

Djiku becomes one of several Ghanaian footballers to play for Fenerbahçe after former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah and Andre Ayew.
