Women’s World Cup: Japan defeat Zambia in their debut match

Against a limited Zambian selection, Japan perfectly managed their entry into the running at this Women’s World Cup. The Japanese selection takes the lead in Group C thanks to a better goal difference than Spain (5-0).

Qualified for the first time in their history for the World Cup, Zambia have measured the level gap that separates it from Japan, finalist of the 2011 World Cup.

Led by a new generation of talented young players, the Japanese selection advances like a well-armed selection after this crushing victory (5-0).

After keeping her team alive, Zambian goalkeeper Musonda cracked at the end of the first period on a goal from Miyazawa (43′). The Japanese winger scored twice on the return from the locker room (62′) after his team used depth to definitively break the Zambian lock.

Tanaka (55′), Endo (71′) and Ueki (90’+11) also opened their counter during the game marked by quick interventions of the VAR. The referee consulted the video images to cancel a goal and refused a penalty to the Japanese.
