France is taking action to repatriate its citizens present in Niger after the coup . Diplomatic authorities have informed the French residing in the West African country that an evacuation operation is being planned.
Due to the worrying evolution of the atmosphere after the July 26 coup in Niger, France wishes to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its nationals.
“With the deterioration of the security situation in Niger, and taking advantage of the relative calm in Niamey, an evacuation operation by air is being prepared from Niamey,” the embassy informed in a press release published on Tuesday.
According to the local media, France was the target of a gigantic demonstration last Sunday.

A few hours before the repatriation decision, the National Council for the Safeguarding of the Fatherland (CNSP) brought accusations against France, saying that the former colony master was preparing to intervene militarily within the Nigerien presidency.
According to the Transition’s communiqué n°14, it was alleged that France had obtained authorizations from two authorities close to the overthrown president Mohamed Bazoum to carry out strikes targeting the new military leaders.
