The Best XI of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Revealed

The Technical Study Group of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled today the Best XI of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2023, held in Cote d’Ivoire.

The epic edition of the Africa Cup of Nations concluded last Sunday with a thrilling spectacle, as host Cote d’Ivoire staged one of the greatest comebacks in history by defeating Nigeria at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Since the tournament kicked off, the CAF Technical Study Group has meticulously scrutinized and analyzed every aspect of the competition.

The new African champions, Cote d’Ivoire, lead the Best XI with three of their players selected: Ghislain Konan, Jean Michael Seri, and Franck Kessié. Kessié’s crucial goal in the final sealed the victory for the hosts.

Despite their disappointment, Nigeria also has three representatives in the Best XI: Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman.

South Africa, who surprised by winning third place, is also well represented with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena. Williams notably etched his name in history by saving four penalties in a match during the competition.

Fourth-placed DR Congo sees two of its players included in the Best XI: Yoane Wissa and Chancel Mbemba.

Goalkeeper: Ronwen Williams (South Africa)

Defenders: Ola Aina (Nigeria), Ghislain Konan (Cote d’Ivoire), William Troost-Ekong (Nigeria), Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo).


Midfielders: Teboho Mokoena (South Africa), Jean Michael Seri (Cote d’Ivoire), Franck Kessié (Cote d’Ivoire).


Forwards: Yoane Wissa (DR Congo), Ademola Lookman (Nigeria), Emilio Nsue (Equatorial Guinea)
