You won’t believe Samuel Eto’o’s salary as Cameroon’s FA President

In an interview with the YouTube channel “The Bridge,” Samuel Eto’o, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), addressed recent controversies surrounding his leadership. To the surprise of many, Eto’o disclosed that he does not receive a salary for his role at FECAFOOT.

Elected as the head of FECAFOOT in 2021, Eto’o’s tenure has been marred by criticism from both detractors and some within the organization. His relationship with the Ministry of Sports has also been tense, leading to what many describe as a ‘cold war.’

During the interview, the 43-year-old opened up about his experiences over the past three years as the head of the federation. The former striker of Barcelona made a surprising disclosure about his financial dealings with the organization, stating, “I do not receive any salary as the President of FECAFOOT.”

“I don’t earn any money from the Federation. I don’t need the money. Sometimes, when situations are difficult, I use my own funds to ensure things run smoothly. These are sacrifices I make without publicizing them”, he added.

If true, Eto’o’s decision shows how committed he to revitalizing Cameroon’s football scene. A dedication to tackling the financial mismanagement he has often criticized in previous administrations.

Since taking office in December 2021, Eto’o has faced significant criticism from some within his own ranks. His tenure has also been marked by tension with the Ministry of Sports, creating a challenging environment for the former football star. “I’ve often felt like giving up. But what others say won’t make me quit,” Eto’o hammered regarding the situation.
