The electoral commission in Libya has just announced that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of the late Libyan leader Muammar al-Gaddafi, has registered as a presidential candidate for next month’s election.

“Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi has submitted (…) his candidacy for the presidential election to the office of the High National Electoral Commission in the city of Sebha,” a statement from the commission said on Sunday.

Indeed, images released this Sunday on social networks showed Saif Al-Islam, wearing glasses and a traditional brown dress, signing documents at the registration center in the southern city of Sebha.

However, the elections scheduled for December 24 remain uncertain as rival entities vie for rules and timing.

On Friday, a large conference in France had approved sanctions against those who may disrupt the vote.

However, there is still no agreement on the rules to govern who should be able to stand in this famous election.
