Despite the pressure on the organizers of the 33rd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Omicron, the continental competition will begin today, January 9, 2022.
This eagerly awaited tournament, which was already postponed last year, almost knew a new cancellation due to the same pandemic.

This time, European clubs also tried to stress the organizers. They hesitated in the release of African players, using the new travel measures taken by European countries in response to the Covid-19 variant as an excuse. Finally, the majority of African players answered the call.
Total Energies Cameroun 2021 will kick off today with a match between the event’s hosts, the Indomitable Lions against Burkina, at 4:00 p.m. GMT.
The second match will pit Ethiopia against Cape Verde at 19:00 GMT.
