Unlike Nigeria or South Africa, four nations celebrated Wednesday their historic qualification for the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2022) which will start in Morocco on July 2.


Togo made their first qualification for this continental competition. The Female Sparrowhawks dominated Gabon (2-1), at home and away.

The other nations that achieved their maiden qualification for this tournament are Burundi, Burkina-Faso and Botswana.

The other match against Ivory Coast and Nigeria, a brave performance by the Super Falcons led to the defeat of the Lady Elephants of Ivory Coast 1-0 in Abidjan.

Banyana South Africa’s Banyana also qualified for the tournament, which starts on July 2, after drawing 1-1 on the day but winning 3-1 on aggregate against Algeria on Wednesday night.
