An official of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is believed to have died following violence after the Nigeria-Ghana game in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Abuja on Tuesday night.

A Zambian doctor, identified as Dr Joseph Kabungo, is said to have passed out after being beaten and stomped on as fans tried to exit the stadium due to the stampede.

According to reports, the man was the CAF appointed anti-doping officer for the game between Ghana and Nigeria.

Several journalists present yesterday on the stadium indicated that his death had been confirmed after he was rushed to hospital.

Many Nigerian fans responded with violence yesterday after a draw against Ghana (1-1), allowing the Black Stars to participate in the next World Cup in Qatar.
