The opening match of the 2022 World Cup, which was originally scheduled to pit Senegal against the Netherlands on Monday November 21, 2022, will start a day earlier, on Sunday November 20, AFP revealed on Wednesday.

This decision was taken in order to allow the host country, Qatar, to play the opening match against Ecuador. These 4 selections are all part of group A.

This choice is the result of an agreement between FIFA and the Qatari organizers according to the same source.

Therefore, the football governing body is expected to formalize this change soon.

After the Netherlands, the African Champions will then face Qatar (November 25) and Ecuador (November 29).
