Senegal have become the first African team to qualify for the knockout stages of the 2022 World Cup after winning Ecuador 2-1 this afternoon.

The Teranga lions faced Ecuador this afternoon as Qatar, also was facing the Netherlands, sought to register their first point in Group A.

Senegal had dominated the first part of the game thanks to a penalty awarded to Ismaila Sarr in the 44th minute.

Three minutes after Ecuador equalized in the 67th minute, Chelsea player Kalidou Koulibaly put the African champions in the lead.



The final score 2-1! Senegal therefore join the Netherlands, France and Brazil in the round of 16 of Qatar 2022.
