After being knocked out of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, four head coaches have already thrown in the towel. They are Gerardo Martino, Nana Otto Addo, Paulo Bento and Roberto Martinez.

Gerardo Martino

Argentine football manager , Gerardo Martino, became head coach of Mexico national team since 2019. But following their last group match against Saudi Arabia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he left the team.

In Qatar 2022, Mexico found themselves in Group C finally led by Lionel Messi’s country Argentina.

Although the Mexicans managed to win Saudi Arabia, 2-1, they had a total of 4 points with a -1 goal difference, while Poland (2nd) also had a total of 4 points with a zero goal difference.

The 60 year-old football technician had become unpopular long before the World Cup, with losses to the United States in the Nations League and Gold Cup finals in the summer of 2021 turning his spell with El Tri toxic.

Nana Otto Addo

Otto Addo announced his departure just after the Ghana Black Stars lost their last match at the 2022 World Cup.

It was another unforgettable day for the Ghanaians defeated, 2-0 by Uruguay on December 02, 2022.

The German-born Ghanaian was nominated this year. His main mission being to help Ghana win the World Cup not having been accomplished, the former footballer resigned.

The 47-year-old also works as a talent coach for Borussia Dortmund.

Roberto Martinez

The Spanish football manager Roberto Martínez Montoliu has also resigned as Belgium head coach after failing to qualify his side for the knockout stages.

Martinez, 49, started 2016 with the most wins in Belgian national team history.

On September 20, 2021, he again achieved a new feat: Belgium celebrated three consecutive years at the top of the FIFA rankings.

However, in Qatar, the Red Devils could only register one win in Group F with a draw and a loss to Morocco.

Paulo Bento

Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento was appointed South Korea head coach on August 17, 2018. His contract includes the 2022 World Cup.

Paulo managed to qualify South Korea for the knockout stages for the first time in 12 years. But his team will be eliminated by Brazil 4-1 on December 5, 2022.

The Portuguese subsequently quit his job, saying he made the decision in September.

So far, only these four coaches have confirmed their resignations.
