The Organizing Committee of the TotalEnergies Algeria 2022 African Nations Championship met this Monday, January 16, 2023 in Algiers to take decisions relating to the rest of the competition, in particular with the absence of Morocco.
“On this occasion, it was decided that Group C will consist of three teams, with the direct consequence of the qualification of the first two teams for the knockout stage,” said a statement from the governing body of football in Africa.
The CHAN Organizing Committee also seized the competent judicial body of CAF regarding the absence of Morocco from the match scheduled for Friday in Constantine against Sudan.
In Group C, only Ghana, Madagascar and Sudan remain. Morocco, holders of the title, could not take part in their matches because of the diplomatic problems that the Kingdom has with its Maghreb neighbor, Algeria, which hosts this competition.
So far in the Group is led by Madagascar which has 3 points after winning Ghana (2-1) on Sunday.
