The final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) which opposed this Saturday, January 04 the two best teams of the competition namely Algeria and Senegal, although poor in scoring opportunities has still kept all its promises. The suspense was long but in the end, the lions of Teranga pull off a double blow: AFCON 2022 and CHAN 2023.
The Algerian fans were there at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Algiers to push their team to win the cup of this 7th edition of CHAN.
The “fennecs” were a little more favorites because they have made “clean sheets” since the start of the competition (no goals conceded).
Obviously, the history of the CHAN will retain this statistic for them because even after regulation time and extra time during this final against the Senegalese, the Algerian team did not take any goal.
The Senegalese were able to resist the onslaught of the Algerians, especially at the end of the match.
During the penalty shootout, the Algerians already saw themselves as champions with a missed shot from the Senegalese side (Ndiaye).
But the Algerian Aimen Mahious, whom the journalists nicknamed “Jorginho” by his way of playing the shots on goal, this time put the ball between the gloves of the Senegalese goalkeeper.
The next Senegalese player, O. Diouf did not shake in front of Gendouz whose teammate Kendouci will send a few minutes after his shot on the bar.
The Teranga lions won their first CHAN trophy almost under the same conditions as the first AFCON trophy on February 06, 2022 in Cameroon. Decidedly the football finals in February smile to Senegal.
