Tuesday, May 02 was marked by two major matches counting for the group stages of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON U17 2023). Senegal and Algeria clashed yesterday, ahead of the match between Congo and Somalia.

After a resounding victory on the second day of Group A on Tuesday, Senegal is guaranteed to play in the quarter-finals of AFCON U17 2023. The Lionceaux de la Teranga dominated Algeria (3-0).

Coach Serigne Saliou Dia and his boys recorded their second consecutive victory in this competition, after winning Congo last Sunday (1-0).

In the first part of this meeting which took place at the Nelson Mandela stadium, neither team managed to score a single goal.

But at the fourth minute of the second part of the game Amara Diouf made the difference. The captain of the Lionceaux will offer himself a double by ideally transforming a penalty obtained by his team in the 61st minute, before his compatriot Mamadou Savané signs the 3rd goal (86th).

This victory offers Senegal the qualification for the quarter-finals of the tournament even before the third day scheduled for next Friday. They will face Somalia who have collected only one point in two matches, like Congo, their opponent on Tuesday.



At the end of a very disputed match, Congo and Somalia ended up separating on a score of parity (1-1).

In the 32nd minute the Somalis announced a superiority. A feat by Dini Dahir which will be equalized by Congo thanks to a goal from winger Ayel Nzouzi (58th).



Results: Algeria vs Senegal: 0-3, Congo vs Somalia: 1-1.
