As part of the African Cup of Nations under 17 (AFCON U17) underway in Algeria, two major matches are on the program this Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
It is already the quarter-finals of this competition which is in full swing in the major Algerian cities. This Wednesday, Senegal will face South Africa as the hosts, facing their Moroccan neighbors, will try to secure their place in the semi-finals.
Defending champions Cameroon were knocked out of the tournament early in the first round and left their throne vacant. Meanwhile, other Cubs, from Senegal, are now aiming for the title.
Like their compatriots from the A team, African champions in January 2022, their elders who won the CHAN in Algeria, and their big brothers from the U20s also crowned this year, the Senegalese U17s dream of lifting the Cup.
On the other hand, the South Africans qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2023 U17 Africa Cup of Nations despite their defeat (3-2) on the third day against Nigeria. The Amajimbos, however, struggled to reach this level. Unlike their opponent of the day, they recorded only one victory during this competition.
U17 Maghreb derby

Tonight, the Maghreb derby, Morocco-Algeria, will also take place at 7 p.m. GMT at the Mohamed Hamlaoui stadium, Constantine.
Although access to the semi-finals and qualification for the World Cup is the objective of the day, this match takes place in a particular diplomatic context.
For this clash, Morocco are considered the favourites as they were at the top of group B with six points, after beating South Africa (2-0) and Nigeria (1-0). The Moroccans’ only defeat so far in the tournament was against Zambia (2-1).
Wednesday’s matches:
4 p.m. GMT: Senegal Vs South Africa at the Nelson-Mandela stadium, Baraki (Algiers).
