On Tuesday, May 09, 2023, the Togolese journalist, Yaou Mensah Agbenou won a prize awarded by the European Union to Togo on the occasion of the celebration of Europe Day.

Mensah Agbenou, who is the editor-in-chief of our newspaper, and a reporter for the Lomé-based media, icilome.com, was one of the winners of the Prize awarded after days of online competition.

The colleague gave the right answers to several questions concerning the partnership between the West African country and the European Union.

The winners were subsequently invited to the Europe Day celebration evening in Lomé.



“I won this special EU prize, not because I better understand the relationship between Europe and Togo. But because I am one of those who can see the impacts this partnership has on the development of my beloved country.”, said the young journalist.

Yaou Mensah Agbenou, 28, is known for his commitment to performing his profession as a journalist in several languages. Among others, the young man is fluent in English, French, German, Ewe and Twi. He also speaks moderately Russian and Turkish.

Europe Day is a day celebrating “peace and unity in Europe” celebrated on 5 May by the Council of Europe and on 9 May by the European Union. The first recognition of Europe Day was by the Council of Europe, introduced in 1964.
