Benin’s under-20 women’s selection played the opening match against Ghana, the host country of the 2023 West African Union Football Zone B Cup (WAFU-B U-20). Benin’s Amazons lost 3-0 to Ghana.
Ghana earned a convincing win over Benin in the 2023 WAFU-B U-20 Women’s Cup opening match at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Black Princesses kicked off the game strong, creating several scoring chances in the opening minutes. However, their wastage in front of goal prevented them from taking an early lead.
Despite opposition resistance, coach Yussif Basigi’s girls kept pushing for the opener. Maafia Nyame will finally find a break through, giving Ghana a 1-0 lead before half-time.
In the second half, the coach made a substitution, bringing in Mary Amponsah for Faiza Seidu to add more attacking momentum. Stella Nyamekye and Mary Amponsah further increased Ghana’s lead, scoring in the 60th and 61st minutes respectively.

Benin tried to stage a comeback but were met with a tough Ghanaian defense and outstanding goalkeeper . The game ended in a 3-0 victory in favor of the Black Princesses.

Benin will now prepare to face Cote d’Ivoire in their next Group A game on Tuesday, May 23, while the Ghana-Cote d’Ivoire clash is scheduled for the following Saturday.
