On May 30, 2023, the nonimmigrant visa processing fee for the United States of America will increase. Among other changes, tourist and student visa fees will increase from $160 to $185, several US Embassies around the world have announced.
The U.S. Department of State has issued a final rule regarding increases to certain nonimmigrant visa (NIV) and border crossing card (BCC) processing fees for Mexican citizens aged 15 and more.
These increases were published in the Federal Register on March 28, 2023 and will be effective May 30, 2023.
Fees for visitor visas for business or tourism (B1/B2 and BCC) and other non-application NIVs, such as student and exchange visitor visas, will increase from $160 to $185.
Fees for certain petition-based nonimmigrant visas for temporary workers (categories H, L, O, P, Q and R) will increase from $190 to $205, while payments for a treaty trader, investor Treaties and Treaty Seekers in a Specialized Occupation (Category E) will increase from $205 to $315.
US authorities say they are committed to facilitating legitimate travel for immigrants and non-immigrants. The fee increase is based on the cost acquired to provide the services to non-immigrants. This was increased after conducting a study.
Note that other consular fees are not affected by this rule, including the two-year residency fee waiver required for certain exchange visitors.
