Despite being beaten 0-1 by Young Africans of Tanzania, USM Alger won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup on Saturday, June 3 2023, after a final played in a tense atmosphere.

The Algerian team took advantage of its first leg result to lift the continental trophy on July 5, 1962 Stadium.

Winners in the first leg (1-2) the Reds and Blacks wanted to finish the job at home. However, the Young Africans pushed on, literally dominating the first half.

Things got off to a good start for the Tanzanian club with Shabani’s quick opener from the penalty spot.

This opener will put pressure on the Algiers, visibly out of inspiration. In the second half, the USMA offers better situations. But they are not rewarded especially since a penalty was missed by Belaïd (59th).

USM Alger lost (0-1) but won the trophy thanks to the away goal.

In all their history, this is the first time that USM Alger has won the CAF Cup.

The Tanzanian Djigui Diarra was awarded the TotalEnergies Man of the Match after the highly disputed game on Saturday.
