Osasuna excluded from Europa Conference League next season

On Tuesday, the UEFA appeal committee confirmed the exclusion of Atlético Osasuna, a cub of La Liga club, from the next edition of the Europa Conference League.

For a story of match-fixing which dates back to the 2013-2014 season, Osasuna has been excluded from European competitions for next season.

The decision was confirmed by the appeal committee of the instance on July 5. The seventh of the last edition of the Spanish championship will therefore not compete in the Conference League, the competition for which he qualified.

Note that this decision, although official, can still be modified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The staff of the club has ten days to seize the Swiss office, which represents their last resort to hope to find Europe next season. In a press release, Osasuna also reacted vehemently to this sanction confirmed by the UEFA appeal committee.

“The members of the UEFA Appeals Committee did not take into account the allegations presented by the entity last Friday and reaffirmed the initial opinion of the inspectors of the Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of UEFA. The reasons why the appeal committee decided to exclude Osasuna will be transferred to the entity in the coming days”, read the statement.

“Club Atlético Osasuna does not at all agree with UEFA’s criteria or the investigation into the case and regrets the wrong message that UEFA is sending to the football world by punishing those who expose corruption and prosecute it.”

Finally, Club Atlético Osasuna said it will continue to deploy all the legal instruments at its disposal to stand up to UEFA and put an end to what it considers to be a serious violation of its rights.
