Mamoutou Touré, president of the Malian Football Federation was placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday, charged in connection with an investigation into allegations of damage to public property and use of forgery.
The president of the Malian Football Federation has been remanded in custody by the economic and financial center of the West African country. The man was charged and placed under a warrant of committal after being heard by Judge Lassine Fofana as part of an investigation into allegations of damage to public property and use of forgery, dating back to the period of 2013 to 2019.
A situation that casts a shadow over the next elections within FEMAFOOT, with the renewal of the executive office of the Federation during a ballot which will take place on August 29. In the running for his own succession, Mamoutou Touré is the only candidate whose file has been validated, his competitors have unfortunately seen their candidacy rejected by the electoral commission.
This judicial decision has in any case caused a chain reaction within Femafoot. The executive committee of the Federation immediately released a press release to give its unanimous support to its president. The committee accuses the Malian judiciary of having reacted to “rumors” circulating on social media and highlights the fact that an in-depth investigation had been carried out by the judiciary before the arrest of Mamoutou Touré.
Other personalities, including Issiaka Sidibé, former president of AS Real de Bamako, and Modibo Sidibé, secretary general of Femafoot, were placed also detained in the context of this case which relates to accusations of embezzlement of public funds.
