Messi Secures Another Win at The Best FIFA Football Awards

In a ceremony hosted by the global football governing body last night in London, Lionel Messi, already holding the title from the previous year, once again emerged victorious in The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023™. The event, held in the British capital, not only highlighted individual players’ achievements but also honored football icons across genders, from coaches to goalkeepers.

In a closely contested battle, Messi clinched the coveted title of the best player in 2023, as determined by a tense vote involving coaches, national team captains, specialized journalists, and fans worldwide. Tied with 48 points, the FIFA World Cup 2022™ winner, Leo Messi, and Manchester City FC’s Norwegian forward Erling Haaland were separated by votes from male national team captains, adhering to the award rules. French forward Kylian Mbappé secured the third position with 35 points.

Not only Messi : Other winners of The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023

Aitana Bonmati, securing The Best FIFA Women’s Player for the first time, earned praise from FIFA for “rightfully earning the prestigious trophy.” Her leadership led Spain to its first global victory in 2023 and Barcelona to a domestic and European treble, surpassing finalists Linda Caicedo and Jennifer Hermoso with votes from coaches and captains of women’s national teams.

The winners in various categories include Mary Earps as the best goalkeeper, Ederson as the best male goalkeeper, Sarina Wiegman and Pep Guardiola as female and male football coaches, respectively. Guilherme Madruga claimed the Puskás Award, Marta received the Special Award, the Brazilian men’s national team was honored with the Fair Play Award, and the FIFA Fans’ Award was presented to Hugo Daniel “Toto” Iñíguez.

Following the ceremony on January 15, 2024, held in the absence of Messi, the football world continues to buzz with spirited discussions about the choices made. While many fans commend the record-breaking Messi, others argue that Haaland was more deserving of this prestigious title.
