French President Macron joins football legends in fundraiser match

French President Emmanuel Macron participated in a charity football match alongside African football legends on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in France.
The match’s standout moments were captured on video, preserving the excitement for all to enjoy.

The match, held at Stade Bernard Giroux outside Paris, aimed to raise funds for a French foundation dedicated to improving the lives of hospitalized children and adolescents.

Scorers in the game included Samuel Eto’o, Emmanuel Adebayor, and President Macron himself, who found the back of the net in the second half. Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger led one team, while French journalist Jacques Vendroux managed the other.

Vendroux’s team, featuring Macron, French national team manager Didier Deschamps, 1998 World Cup champion Robert Pires, and Ivorian legend Didier Drogba, emerged victorious with a 5-3 scoreline. Pires secured a first-half hat-trick, and Garcia added a fourth goal before Macron converted a penalty in the second half.

Samuel Eto’o from Cameroon and Emmanuel Adebayor from Togo were among the scorers for Wenger’s team. The match was organized by the Varietes Club de France, a football club that brings together celebrities and former football stars.

Altimately, the event raised a total of 57,500 euros for the charitable cause.

Within the week, many football stars were also invited by French President Emmanuel Macron to the Palais de l’Elysée.
