Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye recently declared his assets to the Constitutional Council, showcasing his commitment to transparency, as reported in the Official Journal on Monday, July 29.
Following the example of his predecessors Abdoulaye Wade (2000-2012) and Macky Sall (2012-2024), Faye fulfilled this legal obligation, mandated by the Constitution since 2001, shortly after his election on March 24. However, his declared assets are significantly lower compared to his predecessors.
As president, Faye receives a monthly salary of 4,859,302 FCFA ( approximately 8000 US Dollars ). Married under a separation of property regime, his assets include two bank accounts with balances of 14.7 million and 7.4 million FCFA, respectively, and a savings account containing 2,690 FCFA. At 44 years old, this finance official also has two bank loans with outstanding balances of 6.4 million and 24.4 million FCFA.
His possessions include a used Ford car purchased in 2022 and a 200-square-meter house obtained in 2020 through the tax union. The land for this house is valued at 140 million FCFA, and the construction costs were of a similar amount.
His real estate assets also include an 80 by 40-meter plot in his hometown of Ndiaganiao (Central-West), a 4.3-hectare agricultural plot in a neighboring village with investments amounting to 29 million FCFA, and a vacant 202-square-meter plot in another nearby village.
Subsequently, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko urged government officials to submit their own asset declarations. He emphasized the importance of transparency within their administration.
