The leader of the secessionist group which claims the independence of western Togoland, Charles Komi Kudzordzi, has died, we learn this Saturday, October 16, 2021.

According to our colleagues at 3news, multiple sources have confirmed that the leader of the “Homeland Study Group Foundation” commonly known as Papavi, died this Saturday at the government hospital in Keta.

The octogenarian had led an insurrection, demanding independence for the western part of former Togoland, which today covers the regions of Oti and Volta as well as part of the North-East region, Ghana.

While several of his supporters remain in prison, the 88-year-old is being judged for treason.
