The final FIFA rankings for 2021 were released this Thursday, December 23. It showed that Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and many African countries did not improve or regress as they started and ended the year in the same places.

The Black Stars have collected 1428.97 points with their position of 52nd in the world, which they occupied since the ranking of February 2021.

On the Africans ranking, which is still headed by Senegal (20th in the world), Ghana is eighth followed by Mali and Côte d’Ivoire.

Meanwhile, the Eagles also maintain their 36th position. They have played 11 games this year, won six matches, two draws and three losses. The most scandalous being the 1-0 loss to the Central African Republic in October.

According to FIFA, the Covid-19 pandemic reduced the number of international matches to a record low, falling only behind the number for 1987.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, only 352 full internationals were played in 2020.
