On Wednesday December 22, 2021, nearly a million doses of the Covid-19 vaccines were destroyed in Nigeria, by the west African countries’ authorities.
According to the latter, this large quantity of Astrazeneca vaccines from donations had a short shelf life.

After announcing this loss of stock, the authorities explained that they no longer accept donations with close expiration, as was the case for this batch which “nearly reached its expiry date.”
” So actually for example some of these vaccines came in with shelf lives of about 4 weeks,” explains Faisal Shuaib, head of Nigeria’s National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Vaccination is progressing rapidly in the country. Nigeria aims to fully immunize nearly a quarter of its population by February 2022.
