Algeria, the reigning African champion, was beaten on Sunday by modest Equatorial Guinea, complicating a possible qualification of the Fennecs for the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) in progress.


Invincible for 35 matches, the Fennecs yielded to Equatorial Guinea (1-0) at the end of a match which they nevertheless dominated with a possession of 69 against 31%.

Guinea, which according to the latest FIFA rankings occupies the 114th place out of 210 teams in the world, complicated the task of the Algerians thanks to a goal by central defender Obiang in the 70th minute.



The goal of the player of Antequera CF, in the Spanish fourth division, thus allowed Equatorial Guinea to end the series of 35 games without defeat of the Fennecs.

Last in Group E with zero points, Djamel Belmadi’s men will absolutely have to beat Ivory Coast next Thursday to hope to qualify for the knockout stages of AFCON 2021.
