Burkina Faso army has terminated the functions of President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, Burkinabé soldiers finally openly declared on national television on Monday.

Uniformed soldiers announce on television that they have seized power. According to their statements, they are a “movement that brings together all the components of the defense and security forces”.

The location of Kaboré still remains unknown. However in the afternoon, a message was posted from his Twitter account asking those involved in the insurrection to give up.

This announcement was followed, unsurprisingly, by condemnations from the African Union, ECOWAS, the European Union and the United States of America.

Roch Christian Kaboré, 64, became president of Burkina Faso in December 2015. He was then re-elected in 2020 for a second term. But uprisings are organized against him because of the insecurity in the country.
