FIFA, the international football governing body sent on Tuesday “its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims who lost their lives following the tragic incident that took place” on Monday January 25, 2022 at the Olembé stadium in Cameroon.
At least eight (8) people are believed to have been killed and several injured after the African Cup of Nations match between Cameroon and Comoros on Monday.

“The thoughts and prayers of the global football community are with the victims, the ones who have been injured in this incident, and all the staff of both CAF and the Cameroonian Football Association (FECAFOOT) at this difficult moment ”, FIFA noted in a statement.
The incident even led the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hold a press conference on Tuesday in Yaoundé.
According to the president, Patrice Motsepe, the circumstances of the incident are are still unknown. They however will be discussed between him, the Cameroonian government and the organizing committee today.
