Ghana and Nigeria will face off next month in the 2022 World Cup play-offs. These highly anticipated games always get fans of the two neighboring countries talking. Football legend Jay-Jay Okocha also gave his opinion.
The former Bolton Wanderers midfielder, hinted that the matches between Ghana Black Stars and the Super Eagles would be tough.
“Ghana versus Nigeria match is never an easy one. It is more about the rivalry, it is a pride match and a bragging right one,” Okocha said in a recent interview.
“For me, what is most important is to get the ticket. It doesn’t matter how, even if we don’t play beautiful football.”
“What is important is getting the ticket to the World Cup in Qatar. It is the result that matters.”
Even after their unsatisfactory outing during the AFCON 2021, Jay-Jay Okocha highlighted the positives from the biennial African football showpiece.
“Eagles raised our hopes in expectations of a good run in the tournament but unfortunately things didn’t go the way we expected,” he added.
“However, I expect the team to learn from their outing in Cameroon and hopefully use the World Cup play-offs with Ghana to correct those mistakes.
Ghana will host Nigeria at the Cape Coast Stadium for the first leg on March 23, before traveling to the reverse fixture at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja on March 27.
