The 3rd and 4th days of the 2023 AFCON Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers are scheduled for next September, but Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cissé wants a shift in the schedule.
“The best thing to help the five (African) selections that are qualified for the world is to stop the playoffs in September and give the opportunity to countries to make their preparations,” said the coach of Senegal.
Otherwise, “We will not prepare as we should. I think we can find a solution to postpone the playoffs scheduled for September. It’s up to CAF to act, ”said coach Aliou Cissé in a post-match press conference during the victory (1-0) against Rwanda.
Indeed, the reigning African champions as well as some other African countries qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup like Ghana, recently played matches as part of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers and will continue this playoffs in September, meanwhile the World Cup will kick off in November.
