Despite protests from the opposition side, which denounces widespread fraud and manipulation of the results, the new elected president of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to be sworn in on May 29, 2023 in accordance with the constitution.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has claimed there is no justification for the formation of an interim government in the country.
The results published by the Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (Inec) declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu the winner of the presidential election held on February 25 and 26.
The candidate of the ruling Progressives Congress (APC) won 37% of the vote, followed by his rival of the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who won 29% of the vote .
Candidates from the four opposition political parties appealed to the Constitutional Court, citing widespread fraud and manipulation of results.
Despite objections from the opposition, the Minister of Information and Culture has insisted that Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be sworn in on May 29 in accordance with the constitution.
The opposition is calling for the formation of an interim government until election-related allegations are clarified. However, the Minister recalled that political parties have the right to challenge the election results in court.
